Roasters' lounge

This lounge takes its name from the time when the Inn offered barges attracted by the aroma, chicken and duck roasted on a spit in the fireplace.

Today and for a long time already, chefs - as well as shoppers! - have adopted the pleasures of the famous Rouennaise duck recipe. The cutting, pressing, buckling, cooking and presentation of the duck prepared in the room in front of you offer a real show for the senses.

Faithful to the Norman tradition, the intimate, cosy and warm atmosphere fills this heart of La Couronne, with its oak floor, its beams and half-timbered walls, its walls that still bear the signature of the clients of the Inn, its medieval draperies, its old roulette plates, etc.

The Roasters' Lounge is also the window of La Couronne. Indeed, its slightly lower location offers a very lively perspective on la place du Vieux Marché.

Joan of Arc lounge

As its name suggests, it is entirely dedicated to the famous Maid Joan. This is evidenced by the mural frescoes, painted by Georges Conrad in 1928, discreetly surrounding the room, retracing her story from the moment of the revelation when the young shepherdess heard voices telling her the mission of saving the Kingdom of France from English rule until its tragic end, promoted by Bishop Cauchon, reserving the fate of the witches for her. Jeanne died on May 30, 1431 in the flames of the pyre; the almost secular old inn was a witness to this. From the windows of the living room, we can now count on the large cross of the national monument, the first stone of which was laid by René Coty in 1956, to be finally erected in 1979 in homage to the Maid Joan, a cross located on the very site of the pyre, according to research carried out in the second half of the 19th century by the archivist Charles de Beaurepaire.

The dominant royal blue in this salon is a reminder of the one of the flag of the Kingdom of France that Jeanne held up at the head of her army against the English.

The sculptor Maxime Real Del Sarte, a great defender of Joan of Arc's cause, sculpted the statue, sealed in the provisional monument in 1929, and integrated into the new Jeanne d’Arc church in 1979 after a transitional visit through the hall of the Rouen City Hall during the construction of the new church. This talented sculptor also frequented La Couronne in 1928.

As soon as the first sunny days and the summer heat arrive, enjoy the lively and joyful atmosphere of the old market square for lunch or dinner on the terrace.

Admire the church of Saint Joan of Arc, built by the architect Louis Arretche and inaugurated in 1979 by President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. A building with unique shapes that evokes both the flames of the pyre where the famous Maid Joan perished and the maritime universe of the city of Rouen.
